The history of Konecranes dates back to 1910, when the KONE Corporation was founded. In recent years, Konecranes has largely grown organically, but it has also gained valuable work experience.

 

In 1997, KCI Konecranes carries out the first merger in Germany, acquiring the company MAN SWF Krantechnik. The organic development of KCI Konecranes in Germany has also been achieved through several additional mergers in 2000.

 

In 2002, KCI Konecranes became the first foreign manufacturer of cranes in China to receive all types of business licenses, including import and export licenses. In the same year, the company successfully settled in Japan, establishing a joint venture with Meidensha Corporation.

 

The acquisition of SMV Lifttrucks AB, located in Markarid (Sweden), allowed Konecranes to expand its product range with reach stackers and forklift trucks.

 

KCI Konecranes acquires R.Stahl Fordertechnik - a division of the German company R.STAHL AG, thereby uniting the strongest brands and innovative technologies in crane building. Stahl is a major supplier of special lifting equipment.

 

KCI Konecranes acquires MMH Holdings, Inc. and expands its product range. This acquisition also opens up new opportunities for the development of the service thanks to an extensive fleet of installed MMH cranes.

 

2007 With the acquisition of all the rights of the German company Consens Transport Systeme GmbH, portal container forklifts are added to the Konecranes product range and their production begins.

2007 Konecranes strengthens its position in the field of automated equipment maintenance through the acquisition of Kongsberg Automation AS (Norway) and Reftele Maskinservice AB (Sweden).

 

2008 Konecranes increases its stake in the Japanese company Meiden Hoist System Company Ltd (MHS) from 49 percent to 65 percent in order to expand its presence in the Japanese market of lifting equipment.

 

2008 Konecranes develops business in Spain through the acquisition of Eydimen 2000 S.L. and Ausió Sistemas de Elevación S.L., engaged in the production of cranes and hoists, as well as the provision of service.

 

2008 Further development of automated equipment service through mergers in Scandinavia and the UK.

 

2009 At the expense of two mergers with manufacturers of lifting equipment with aluminum rail systems and manipulators, Konecranes enters a new business segment.

 

2009 Konecranes acquires 65% of the shares of one of the leading manufacturers of cranes and hoists in China - Sanma Crane manufacture Co. Ltd.

 

2010 Konecranes announces six mergers related to the maintenance of automated equipment in Denmark, the United Kingdom and the United States.

 

2010 A strategic alliance between Konecranes and Kito Corporation (Japan). Konecranes owns 24.4% of Kito’s voting shares.

 

2011 Konecranes acquires a 100% stake in the manufacturer of Saudi Cranes & Steel Works Factory Company Limited ("Saudi Cranes") from Saudi Arabia.
