Today, Komatsu Group is one of the leaders in the production and sale of construction and mining equipment, municipal equipment, forest machines and industrial machinery. The history of the company began in 1921. Initially, it was a construction workshop that specialized in the repair of various equipment.

This was preceded by the organization in 1917 of the company Komatsu Iron Works Division, which specialized in the production of coal and mining equipment. For this purpose, engineers who worked at Komatsu were trained in Europe and the USA.

The date of creation of the company is 13 May 1921. It was then that Komatsu Iron Works separated from Takeuchi Mining Co., and became Komatsu Ltd.

In 1924, the first press machine was produced in Japan, and after a very short time, Komatsu Ltd reached such a size that allowed it to begin the construction of machinery for construction.

10 years after its foundation, the company released its first creation - the only agricultural tractor in Japan at the time, the G25, and with time its more powerful counterpart, the G40.

In all subsequent years, the Komatsu Group has successfully expanded and developed its activities, arranging deliveries of its products abroad and opening its plants in different parts of the world.

In the future, the range of equipment has been constantly improved. Developed and introduced into production all new modifications of technology that meet the growing needs of consumers and the level of development of technical devices.

In 1986, another joint venture was established in Germany with Hanomag, which in 1995 was named Komatsu - Hanomag.

In 1988, Komatsu made the first international takeover of the American company Dresser. First, at a ratio of 50:50, but already in 1994 there was a 100% absorption of this company, which in 1996 became known as the “Komatsu America International Company”.

1995 was the year when Komatsu Saigon Co. was opened in Vietnam, Bangkok Komatsu Co. Ltd ”in Thailand, as well as the founding of“ FKI Fai Komatsu Industries S.p.A. ”, which in 2000 was renamed Komatsu Utility Europe S.p.A. in Italy. It was then that in 1995-1996 three subsidiaries were established in China: “Komatsu Shantui Construction Machinery Co. Ltd, Komatsu Changlin Construction Machinery Co. Ltd, as well as, Komatsu (Shanghai) Ltd.

In 1996, Demag Komatsu GmbH was established in Germany, but in 1999, when it became a 100% subsidiary of Komatsu, it was renamed Komatsu Mining Germany GmbH.

In 1998, Komatsu Brasil International Ltd was founded in Brazil. It was a joint venture with the American firm Cummins Engine Industrial Power Alliance Ltd, which specialized in the development and production of engines, as well as another joint venture in Russia with Kraneks International Company Limited.

In 2004, Komatsu Forest was founded, as well as Komatsu Forklift (Shanghai) Co. Ltd "in China. And already in 2007, the company Komatsu India was established.

The Komatsu-Shantui Company joint venture manufactures excavators under the Komatsu brand.
